Age Requirement

You need to be 17 years old or older and have a provisional driving licence.

You can apply up to three months before your 17th birthday, To find out more about Starting to drive and applying for your first provisional driving licence online Click here, your driving licence can take up to two - three weeks to arrive

You will need your provisional licence both parts (plastic id card & paper counter part) or the old paper type licence with your passport before you can take your first lesson, although you can buy/book them at any time.  Click here for information to upgrade your old paper licence

The average number of lessons needed to take a test is around 30-40, depending on pupils ability, and private driving

Eyesight Requirement  

You must satisfy the Instructor  that in good daylight you can read a vehicle number plate at a minimum distance of 20.5 metres (about 67 feet)


Health conditions that could affect your driving

The law requires you to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about any condition that may affect your ability to drive safely. If you are involved in an accident and it is found that your health condition was a contributing factor, you may be prosecuted and your insurance may not be valid, for more information go to the Directgov site
